From 1st February, 2026, some medication may be able to be prescribed for up to 12 months. This may be suitable for some of those with stable long-term conditions. Many conditions however require close monitoring every 3 or 6 months by your doctor in-person or with blood tests to keep you safe. Not everyone will be suitable for a 12 month prescription. Some medication such as ADHD medication and strong painkillers will not be allowed to be prescribed for 12 months.
If your doctor does review your medical condition and advises that it is safe and appropriate to prescribe you a 6 month or 12 month script, you will only pay one fee at the pharmacy, but you will only be allowed to collect 3 months at a time. You will need a full consultation face-to-face for all 6 month and 12 month scripts, we do not offer extended scripts through the portal or by telephone.
Please discuss with your doctor if this is safe and suitable for you.
